What are some holistic approaches that you can have towards anxiety and depression in your overall mental health? Mental health is something I talk about a lot with clients and sometimes we have never been told, or we just don't realise that there's actually so many things that we can do to really bolster and support our brain and our mental health.
This is going to be part one of a 2 part series, and today I'm sharing the first of four things that you can do to really support your brain so that there can be more joy, more balance, and that you can really think about cultivating your mental health because this is something a lot of us struggle with and it's really important to have this conversation.
And, it's really important that you know that you are empowered, that there are options, that there are choices when it comes to your mental health.

So, today's topic is SO important. When you understand and realise it and allow this idea (and revelation) to seep into your bones and your brain, everything will change.
In order for you to make fast progress and see big results in your hormones, your belly and your energy, you need to understand and lean into this truth.
And, it's the truth that nobody is coming to do this for you. Nobody is coming to work on your health for you or your hormones or your gut health or your energy.
The reason is that nobody is more powerful than you!
So this podcast is really a bit of a gentle and loving wake up call to help you understand that you are far more powerful than you've ever been told or more than you've ever realised.
So, if you are feeling like you need to be inspired, if you're feeling stuck and you're unable to make some of the practical steps that I talk about and you are thinking ‘yeah, I know some of the things, the practical stuff we've talked about Kezia, but I don't seem to be able to do it or apply it or be able to apply anything consistently.’

So, how can you do less things, be less overwhelmed and less stressed out about your health and still actually make progress?
We often think about doing less. We think ‘yes, I could be less overwhelmed, I could be less stressed, but the cost of that is that my stomach doesn't actually change, my belly doesn't change, my energy doesn't change. I actually don't see those practical, tangible results.’ But that is not the case.
So, how do you do less things and keep making progress, and how do you really accelerate your progress?
Let’s say you're sitting here at the start of the year and you're just feeling tired, frumpy, burned out. You're too tired and overwhelmed to figure out where to begin. You suspect you've maybe got gut issues or maybe thyroid issues. You suspect there's some stuff going on. Maybe you've had test results, maybe you haven't. Maybe you've been told everything's fine and you're like looking down the barrel of this year and looking back maybe at the previous years and thinking ‘oh my goodness, I’ve felt like this for ages and it's not changed. I've tried to shift this and I haven't gotten to where I want to be.’
If you're already tired and burned out and a bit fatigued and overwhelmed, the idea of working on your health can feel like another overwhelming, fatiguing, tiring thing.
So, you're just thinking that you are stuck in a vicious circle that will never change (which I have felt before and that's why I want to do this Podcast)
You feeling good doesn't actually require you to do a bazillion things. It does require you to do a couple of things though and that's what I want to talk about in this episode: How do we do less and still make progress.

This mini episode has two main focuses. Number one is I wanna personally invite you to come and join me in the shift retreat, which is in a luxury in-person retreat happening in Scotland just outside of Edinburgh in March.

In this week's podcast, I'm going to be sharing the key foundation, if you want to see some shifts and changes in your gut, your IBS, in your bowels, in your bloating, in your periods, in your perimenopause or menopause symptoms, in your skin, in your mental health, your anxiety, your mood, and your energy.
Yep. All of those things can benefit from what I share in this episode.
It's also the mistake I see people make the most. They don't have this foundation. They don't know this, and therefore they just get busy doing all their healthy eating stuff, see results, get really disappointed and end up just diving headfirst into a tub of ice cream because they haven't got the right foundation.
This is such an important episode for the start of the year. Whatever change you're wanting to create in your health, you have to make sure that this foundation is in place.
And it's really a practice. It's not a one and done thing. I'll share with you some of the practical applications of it.
So, this is a really pivotal podcast that I know if you implement, you'll suddenly find that you see more results and you’ll see them quickly and you’ll see them with more ease.

MINI #12: We have been trained to abandon our health

This mini is inspired by a quote that I heard from writer Alex Elle, which said, ‘we've been conditioned and raised to abandon ourselves as an act of love and this is not a safe place to be.’
So, when it comes to your health, it's really important to realise that most of us have been raised, we've been conditioned, we've been given the message consciously and unconsciously, that the way we love people around us is to abandon who we are and what we need and our own bodies and our own preferences and just to not think about ourselves.
That's the ultimate act of love, of sacrifice, of mother-dom, of whatever is what we've been praised for.
I've seen it time and time again, when I look at my elders as it were, and I just see this pattern of burn out and go and burn out and go. We have actually been so deeply taught to abandon our health and to abandon how we feel.
We've been so conditioned and brainwashed into thinking that your energy doesn't matter. Your periods don't matter, the way you poop doesn't matter, your skin doesn't matter, the way you sleep doesn't matter and you can see how this is destroying women's health.
The best way that you mother, that you love other people, that you create an incredible relationship that you create social justice is by creating, connecting and being in a relationship with your body and knowing the tools and the practices (that will be unique to you) that actually help to steward and serve your body.

Welcome to today's podcast where I share the questions and the structure that I use to reflect on the lessons of the previous year and to plan my healthiest, most joyful, and fun year ahead.
So, I'm going to be sharing the questions that I've literally just been answering and how you can really set some intentions and set yourself up for success.
You can do this at any time of year, but now's a great time to do it. Every couple of months you can follow this process and check in because the way that you really transform your health and create some incredible stories (like the stories I share here about my clients who get rid of all their symptoms in a couple of month)
If you want to create your own version of that, it happens with some intention and by creating some sustainable and realistic shifts in your life.

This whole getting healthy and using food as medicine and this whole holistic approach can very easily become something that feels overwhelming. Like another thing to do on your to-do list and you can very easily feel like you don't have the head space. Where do you begin?
Eat meat, don't eat meat, eat gluten, don't eat gluten, eat this, don't eat this. Everything is very contradictory. So, where do you even begin if you're already tired, struggling, in pain, bloated, fatigued, burned out, having awful hormones and period or awful menopause, whatever it is.
So, let's cut some of the crap. This mini episode is about the three things that I would prioritize.
If you do nothing else for your health in the next six months, if you do these things, you will feel better. I repeat, you will feel better.
It might not mean everything in your life gets fixed overnight. Spoiler alerts… there's not really anything that does that. There is no magical one thing and every single health issue will go away. That's just not how it works.
That's why I work with my clients over four months because over four months it can change.

Today I want to give you some simple things to focus on. So, whether you are just wanting to get more energy or whether you are dealing with a really complex health history, where do you begin and what do you focus on?
I would argue that the place you want to begin is these two things. If you are already jumping to expensive supplements, but you haven't addressed these two things, it's a bit of a waste of time.
If you are, I don't know juicing celery to the high heavens every day, but you've not addressed these two things, or that celery juice isn't addressing these two things and helping with these two things, then it's a little bit pointless.
So, I really want to make sure that the effort and the time that you are putting in to your health and to your eating, whether that's a small amount of effort and focus, or whether it's a big priority of yours right now, whatever amount that you are putting in, you are getting a good result out.
It's a bit like, the fuel you put in the car or a machine, what you put in is what you’ll get out.
What I do as a Holistic Nutritionist is make sure that the effort, the time, the food that you put in, gives you big results coming out in terms of energy, health, all that sort of stuff.
And I have to say I've made mistakes with these before, especially one of them, which I'll share with you in this episode.

Today, I want to share with you my passion for detoxing, and I want share this because chances are that with the world that you have grown up in (I have grown up in anyway) is one where you've been brainwashed into dieting mentality and that “thin is best” culture and all of that toxic way of being and thinking.
It would be easy for me to just ditch the whole word ‘detox’ totally because it's linked with detox tea and laxatives and other weird things like that.
So, let's be honest, I am a geek. I love the body. I love science and the liver and your kidneys and your skin - The actual real practical science of detoxification is mind blowing.
This is something I'm going to talk about more because it's actually something I realised recently.
I do a lot of work with my clients around detoxification. It's a serious thing, not like from the point of view of ‘I’m on a detox so I can become a size four’ - No.
We want to look at it ‘I'm detoxing because I am supporting my body in a function it already does. I'm optimising. I'm supporting a system that my life relies on.’
So, let’s dive into this episode and talk about detoxing.
